About this edition
Read the conversations in English beside scans of the original German typescript.
In 1957, Adolf Eichmann spoke on tape with Willem Sassen and other former Nazis in Buenos Aires. The recordings were typed up, and Eichmann corrected parts of the typescript by hand.
The group hoped to dispute the scale of Nazi mass murder.
English translation
…the more easily one can demand these monies, so the basis of all these endeavors and of all these successes is in the last analysis the legend of the 6 million murdered Jews. It is of the highest importance for us to examine this thesis exactly, both as regards its origin and as regards its significance.
They ended up recording Eichmann's own defense of mass murder.
English translation
No, I have to tell you quite honestly, had we killed, of the 10.3 million Jews whom Korherr recorded, as we now know, 10.3 million Jews, then I would be satisfied and would say, good, we have annihilated an enemy.

Reading this edition
Each page gives the English translation beside the scan of the typed German page, including Eichmann's handwritten corrections. Compare a disputed reading with the full scan.
Unclear readings are marked in the text. The scans remain the source for checking them.
Pages 509, 559 and 626 aren't in this copy. The reader keeps the original page numbers, including repeated numbers and sheets with more than one page number.
The Listen page plays the recordings matched to the typescript, with the typed page beside each one. More recordings gathers every other audio extract held for this edition, from documentaries, trial recordings and an audiobook, and names each source.
How this edition was made
The German text and the English translation were made with Claude, an AI model, working from the scans. A second AI pass read every page against its scan and corrected the English and the speaker names. The draft translation is the first, literal version from before that pass.
The recordings were matched to the typescript by machine transcription. In some of them the background music was reduced.
